A bit about the book:

A young woman born with a rare magical skill, Afelanua loses her family to a force that seeks to control her, and her talent. She makes her way to the sea to attempt the rescue of her father, only to be shipwrecked on a strange island with even stranger inhabitants, selkies.

A selkie boy befriends her and despite the taboos of his people, he and Afelanua discover a magical beacon left long ago, but a hidden evil beneath the island wakes as they attempt to retrieve this powerful tool lost to time.

Author’s Biography:

Helen McKay Sanders is the author of The Black Triton, the second book in The Ringmaker series, and her third fantasy work. Her other series is The Widowed Warlock, which kicks off the adventures of the Warlock Max and his companion, the Lost Witch Robyn.

Helen worked at Microsoft for 10 years, then moved to the San Juan Islands to devote herself primarily to writing. When she’s not side-tracked by binge-watching Lord of the Rings spin-offs, or arguing about the meaning of the word “trope” with other island writers, Helen is also the director of an acupuncture school on the mainland and in her voluminous spare time, serenades her chickens off her deck with the bagpipes.

Her next works include the third and fourth books in The Ringmaker series: The Pattern’s Web and The Last Tracker, both of which are in final drafts. She is also considering writing a small book about her time in the ferry system, tentatively called The Island Piper.

You can visit her website at www.hmsanders.com to read up on her occasional blog and sign up for emails about her new releases and readings.
