The Lopez Island Library is very pleased to announce an exciting new opportunity for families with babies and pre-school aged children. Through the generous sponsorship of the Friends of the Lopez Island Library, families on Lopez can now participate in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library free book gifting program.

This wonderful, literacy-building program sends high-quality books to children from birth to age five, every month, free of charge, no matter their family’s income. Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly Parton started her Imagination Library in 1995 for the children within her home county in eastern Tennessee. Today, her program spans five countries and gifts over 1 million free books each month to children around the world. Up until now, this service has not been available to children living on Lopez Island, and we are so thrilled to be able to start offering it, thanks to the generosity of our Friends group as the fiscal sponsor.

Families may enroll their children in this free program by either coming to the Lopez Library and signing up in person, calling the Library at 360-468-2265, or by visiting the Dolly Parton Imagination Library website to register online. Once registered, each month a new, carefully selected book will be mailed in your child’s name directly to their home.
