The Lopez Island Library staff are so grateful for the support of the Friends of the Library group. With their financial backing, we are able to offer an array of programming and special projects every year that strengthen and broaden the services we provide as a public institution. This year the Friends of the Library have supported the following programs and projects:
- 12-weeks of in-person, outdoor after-school programs for elementary children during the school closure of 2020/21.
- The Graphic Novel Book Club for middle-schoolers
- Movie Club for secondary students at LISD
- 4 Teen Aide positions during the summer of 2021
- Latinx focus group in partnerhip with the Lopez Island School District
- Spanish-speaking Book Club
- All supplies for the Take-n-Make Activity Packets distributed to 36 children every other week during summer 2021
- Printing costs and prizes for the Summer 2021 Reading Challenges for children, teens and adults
- Literacy lessons during the LIFRC’s Summer Day Camp
- The Teddy Bear Picnic
- Outdoor Discovery program series in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management
- Becoming an affiliate of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library
- Zoom subscription for regular public programs, including:
The Village Square online forums
3 book clubs every month
The Social Justice Discussion Group
Local Poetry event
Saving the Salish Sea Program
- The Friends funds also supported the updated new furniture outdoors on the Library grounds!
