November is Native American Heritage Month

Each year from September 15th to October 15th, the US officially observes Hispanic Heritage Month to recognize the contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. September 15 was chosen as the start date of the month-long celebration since numerous Latin American countries celebrate their independence days on this date and throughout the month.

Come check out the library’s collection of Hispanic authors, musicians and filmmakers, for all reading ages. We also have a collection of books, audiobooks, movies and magazines in Spanish.

There are myriad online resources related to the abundant contributions of Hispanic peoples to this country. The Gale database has a category of U.S. History in Context specifically about Hispanic Americans. Topics include the Hispanic Americans in the military, the Chicano movement, and Spanish missions in America.
