Roots & Wings: Reading with Children #2

This week a little charm ended up on the front desk of the library to bless our little blog of Roots & Wings!  We are sending love and thanks out to the patron who left it for us! Thank you, dear patron. There is often a time when I am reading a book to a younger group that requires some creative editing on the spot. If your child is not ready to listen to the entirety of a book, you can point out illustrations, naming and playing “I Spy” or narrate the story in your own words. It’s a great way to build connections!

A wonderful book with unique illustrations is Sophie Blackall’s Farmhouse, her newest work. It’s about Sophie’s experience of finding an old farmhouse on a property she purchased and learning about the family that was raised in the house. She illustrates and writes the story based on the treasures she finds. It’s a nostalgically warm story about connection to another time and the history of an Old Farmhouse that loved a family. Quite poetic as well!

Another book of hers, Hello Lighthouse, is also a lovely story of a family who lives in one of the last working lighthouses. It’s a unique story that wants to be read over and over! We have both books in the collection!
