WWII veteran Dan Silkiss shares stories of his time on “Ship and Gun Crews” in the South Pacific. As head chief of gun crews on U.S tankers delivering aviation fuel and on cargo ships transporting goods, Japanese prisoners and repatriated people, Dan sailed the waters of Australia, Papua and Dutch New Guinea as well as the Phillipines. A sergeant in command of gun crews ships including the S.S.Karsik and the M.S. Janssens he was injured in a Japanese attack then recovered in an Australian hospital. Remarkable photographs accompany Dan’s talk.
