There will be an interactive holiday train set for kids of all ages to interact with and receive holiday treats delivered via train from 11 am -2 pm, and then again at 4 pm on Saturday! While at the Lopez Library, enjoy the stunning visual art of artist Dave Raynalds. Both will do an artist talk at 5 pm at the Lopez Library. The Library will close at 6 pm this month, but please read on for how to continue Art Walk into the village!

About John Trench:

I started building models in 1989 and since then I have finished about 70.
I don’t actually remember why I started this hobby beyond just the fact that I enjoyed just looking at a model ships when visiting museums and thinking about the intricate work that went into building them. My first models were quite simple but with no experience and no tools it was frustrating and challenging. After years of building tall ships I wanted to branch out so I added model trains, cars, planes and a variety of other models (Civil War submarines and cannons).
Inspiration for some of models come from travel or reading. I recently built the Endurance, the ship Earnest Shackleton sailed to the Antarctic in 1914, which was crushed by the arctic ice during the famous voyage.

About Dave Raynalds:

ARTIST STATEMENT

My area of interest is watercolor painting. I studied under John Hewett, Steve Hill, and Tom Hoffman. My main goal is a simple, loose and vibrantly colored painting using basic shapes.

Bio

I am a 71 year old retiree and have lived on Lopez for four years.  Handyman, cabinetmaker, bicycle messenger, and landlord are among the jobs I’ve had. As for my artwork, I’ve been painting on a regular basis for over ten years. I am involved in /the Lopez Artist Guild, and volunteer for the TIOLI and the library. For fun I like to work in my shop, travel, make pottery, draw in my sketchbook and walk my two dogs with my wife Martha
