When traveling, bring a few favorite books along or a favorite poem or rhyme to help keep a connection to the night-time routine. Memorizing poetry or prose is wonderfully enriching for your toddler’s emerging language and is a delight for children to hear over and over. A delicious trick up your sleeve.

Two classic books of poems for young children are A.A Milne’s When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six. Wonderful rhythmic poetry to listen to as your child falls asleep whether in the car on the road or in an unfamilar hotel room.
