Join local author Nancy Wynen for a reading and celebration of her novel We Did What We Could, on Thursday, April 28th at 6pm at the Lopez Library and online over zoom.
How do three girls use their imagination and creativity to answer the challenges of World War II? Ellie dreams up their adventures; Agnes works out the details; Maggie leads the action. And it all begins with parking the headmistress’ car on the walls of a foot bridge. The challenges they face take them from England’s countryside to the Netherlands, and finally post D-Day France, weaving into one incredible conclusion.

From her first full-time job in Columbia University’s Oral History Department to a 5-year career as a librarian, and then as an Episcopal priest, Nancy has been listening to people’s personal stories. Helping people with their research and her own passion of studying history led to a desire to the mix stories she has heard with the facts of written history. Her novel puts this passion to the page. Nancy has lived on Lopez for 10 years with her husband Fons Wynen. She was vicar for the Grace Episocopal Church during that time, and is now enjoying a busy retirement.
