Barbara Moody is an author and artist who lives on Lopez. On Saturday, November 17th at 3pm, she will read from her recent book, Flying Solo, about her experiences as a caregiver, and her adventurous life as an octogenarian widow.
Barbara was born on Valentines Day, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY. She married her husband of 63 years in June of 1951. They lived in various parts of the country and traveled the world together. Her first book, A Long Way from Brooklyn, recounts memories of her childhood on Long Island, and her experiences as a young wife and mother, traveling and child-rearing across the country. In 1998 her husband was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, and 16 years of care-giving ensued. Barbara’s book Flying Solo tells the story of making the best of each day, adjusting to widowhood and ends with life lessons learned. She now lives on Lopez with her son, two grandsons, two grand-daughters (in-law), and one great-granddaughter.
