Lopez Island artist Elizabeth Myhr will present new work and an artist talk on Saturday September 12th from 5-6pm in the Lopez Library. About “Roadside Divinities” she says: “The colored and patterned banners in this exhibition were essentially made by the plants themselves. My sole role in the plants’ revelations of their colors is to serve as a provider of conditions for their remarkable display. Every piece in this exhibit is the result of a moment in time in the universe, a walking and a harvesting, a preparing and a placing, fire, rainwater, sun, shade, wind, iron, ash, ammonia – many, many causes and conditions, none of which I have any real control over. A branch of alder in April is not a branch of alder in August, though that single tree seems so much the same. All things endlessly change. The results of this art are always a surprise.
