“Children need two things: roots and wings.”
The beginning of the school year: it seems so connected to the cool winds of fall and changing of the leaves. We have been singing songs about leaves blowing in the wind, and observing and collecting them.
The cycles of life in a family can also be a time to read specific books about school and going back to a classroom or starting again at home. We have a good selection at the library for both fall and back to school.
One of the back to school books that I love is called The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig. This gentle story shows how small acts of kindness in a classroom can help children feel included and allow them to flourish. Any parent, teacher, or counselor looking for material that sensitively addresses the needs of quieter children will find The Invisible Boy a valuable and important resource.
