“Children need two things: roots and wings”
This month is the kick off to our Reading Buddies Program at the Library. We have almost 20 pairs of Young Buddies reading with our adult Buddies in the Library. Next year in the month of March, if you love to read to children, or just love to read, please sign up and join us! Every child from birth has a blessed life when read to throughout their childhood!
Spending time together while reading aloud helps to create strong parent-child bond and promotes healthy brain development. Children who are read to more often have improved language and listening skills, experience stronger emotional connections to their loved ones, and gain a lifelong love of reading.
There is a wonderful book we have in our collection with many suggestions for age appropriate books called The Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease. In this book, the author suggests all kinds of award-winning books from picture books to chapter books for you to choose from.
There are many benefits to reading to a child for the adult as well! A raise in oxytocin and melatonin levels, lower blood pressure and a higher rate of happiness!
Grab a book and READ!
Our future depends on it!
