The Lopez Island Library has partnered with the Lopez Island School to present a mobile planetarium at the School gymnasium on May 16th. There will be several presentations for students during the day, with the final presentation at 3:30pm open to families and the public. Participants will enter the indoor dome and see a simulated star filled sky. They will be guided through the stars of the Northern Hemisphere exactly as they appear on the day of the presentation, and will be taught how to identify every planet in our solar system. Participants will witness the night sky in different seasons and from different global perspectives, while learning about the sun, moon, planets, and milky way. The program also includes an introduction to the Greek mythological characters that can be found in the constellations throughout the year. All ages are welcome to attend the public viewing at 3:30pm at the school gym. Arriving early is recommended to guarantee a spot.
