Birding is a habit of deep listening and attention, very aligned with mindfulness. Combine these two practices and the result is a walk through the Lopez Village in relative silence, staying open to birdsong and chance encounters with feathered friends. Beth St. George will share educational tips for introducing birds via their songs and appearance, as well as utilizing the Merlin Bird ID app.
You may download the free Cornell Lab of Ornithology Merlin Bird ID app on your smartphone, bring a pair of binoculars (THE LIBRARY NOW HAS 3 PAIR FOR CHECKOUT), weather dependent layers of clothing, and good walking shoes for this hour long experience. The terrain will be flat, but is uneven and will require good mobility.
We will meet promptly at 9am under the apple tree at the library.
A maximum of 6 participants for each walk. The last Mindful Birding walk of the season will be on Tuesday, June 27 at 9am. Stay tuned for new walks in September, when migrants and water birds return. Please call, email or stop by the library to reserve your space: Beth@LopezLibrary.org, 360-468-2265.
