Kent Nelson’s writing embraces a wide range of stirring themes and exotic backdrops. He draws equally on his imagination and his own colorful experiences in his tales that are as moving as they are full of inspired surprises. He captivates readers with finely nuanced prose that reaches into his characters’ deepest feelings as they confront their personal misfortunes.
Kent Nelson is the author of the novels Language in the Blood and Land That Moves, Land That Stands Still. His short fiction has been included in The Best American Short Stories, Best of the West, O. Henry, and Pushcart. He is an avid birder and has identified 769 species of birds in North America and has also run the Pikes Peak Marathon twice.

Kent discovered early on that writing fiction makes every experience of life into material for work, including spending time on Lopez Island. Kent will give an overview of his career as a writer, read a short story from his collection, The Spirit Bird, and then one the floor to question and answer session which is ideal for writers and readers alike.
