Come join us for an opening of new works by Julia Mira’s paintings and Michelle Mielke’s incredible amigurumi crocheted creations! There will be talks by the artists at 5 pm and live music at 5:30 pm in the Community Room along with light refreshments.
About Julia Mira’s new work:
The theme is green. Envious, eco-friendly, leafy, healthy to eat. Emerald, chartreuse, olive, forest, moss, sea, sage, and lime. I’ve lived my life in green, and invite you to join in the exploration.
Julia is also a Lopez Library Artist in Residence for 2024, read more about her here.
About Michelle Mielke:
I am primarily a self-taught crocheter who loves creating amigurumi – the Japanese art of crocheting or knitting stuffed yarn creatures. Initially inspired by their mythology and variety, I started making gnomes. As my technique and consistency improved, I expanded to teddy bears, dolls and representations of animals and people. I love adding the details and accessories to each one. As every creature comes into being, I am filled with joy as each one seems to have their own expression, character and uniqueness. I am most happy when this joy is shared by a child or adult who picks up a creature that calls to them.
