“The Airing of the Quilts” Exhibition

Sixteen Lopezian quilt makers answered the call for quilts to be exhibited during April at the Lopez library. The response is this lovely show of the broad diversity available to  quilt enthusiasts.

A  quilt, defined as  textile sandwich held together by thread, is considered one of the broadest fields of crafts available in today’s world. These quilts represent the vast styles and techniques  to be explored ranging from whole cloth to block-style appliqued and pieced. All the quilters use the sewing machine to assemble the tops of various fabrics that have been changed by cutting, dying, or washing. Next, the quilt is either be tyed,  hand, or machine quilted.  To finish a quilt means to bind the layers’ edges together. These quilts reflect the makers’ individual choices and decisions.

Quilters included:

Christine Aufderhar, Edi Blomberg, Joanne Bryant, Mary Bywater Cross, Anne Dawson, Lorraine Edmond, Pat Kuentzel, Rosalie Mandich, Myrna Mattson, Candy Reiter Midkiff, Mary Miller, Barbara Nepom, Kathleen Pallansch, Claudia Rempel, Laurie Teichroew , Nancy Wynen

I find the simple act of collage
     – paper, paste, cut, tear –
   grounding, calming healing.
     In these unsettling times
        feeling a wild range
         of mixed emotions,

Sometimes there are no words.
