Wondering what to do when a disaster strikes? First figure out what to do before it happens. Pre-planning is key!
Joyce Emergency Planning and Preparation: JEPP is a hybrid Ham & Family Radio Service program “that promotes the creation of a social preparedness network for community” resilience “through three components: 1) equipping communities with two-way radio equipment; 2) developing the skills of local leaders as promoters of risk prevention and; 3) connecting the communities with local authorities and civil protection units. To achieve this goal, Enlaza Mexico targets local leaders within the community to train them as radio network operators and disaster response and preparedness promoters.”
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), runs two invaluable radio stations … which every seasoned Ham knows about – WWV (out of Fort Collins, CO) and WWVH in Hawaii.
NIST radio station WWV broadcasts time and frequency information 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to millions of listeners worldwide. (Not to mention a bunch of other technical and geophysical stuff. GPS satellites depend on them.
