Russel Barsh, Director for Lopez Island based Kwaiht, Center for the Historical Ecology of the Salish Sea introduces you to the dozens of native bee, fly, butterfly and beetle species that help pollinate the islands’ wildflowers and gardens. Featuring photographs and data from four years of studying associations with particular plants such as native orchids and lillies, Russel explains the uneven distribution of pollinators around San Juan County. He will also discuss plans for “sentinel gardens” to monitor pollinator abundance, and measures to provide pollinators with safe and suitable habitats. Join Russel Barsh and the Lopez Library for this critical program on our local pollinators. A Friends of the Lopez Library Summer of Science program.
