Get a library card

Library Card Applications

You will need a current library card to borrow materials from the Lopez Island Library, reserve items from our library, or to borrow from the Inter-Library Loan system. Applications are available at the circulation desk, and you will be able to borrow materials on the same day you apply for your card if you can provide proof of residence or pay  visitor card fees.

Who Qualifies for Free Library Card?

You can get a free library card if you are a resident, rent or own property on Lopez Island or if you attend school on Lopez Island. Applicants under 17 must have applications co-signed by a parent or guardian, who is willing to take financial responsibility.

Proof of residency is required. If you are not listed as owner of a property in the San Juan County Assessor’s database, then a utility bill in your name or driver’s license can be used to confirm you are a Lopez Island resident.

Additional Options

If you don’t qualify for the free card, the following options are available:

  • Visitor cards are perfect if you are visiting for a few months or less. Cards are $10.00, good for two months and allow you to borrow up to three (3) items at any one time.
  • Non-resident cards are for people who visit the island frequently throughout the year. Non-resident cards are $50, have no borrowing restrictions, and are good for one year (from the date of purchase).

Replacement and Renewal of Library Cards

You should bring your library card whenever you visit the library. If your card is lost or stolen, please report it to a library staff member immediately. A block will be placed against your file so that no one else can use your card. If your card is lost, replacement of the card is $3.00.
