This month the Lopez Library features the mixed-media work of artist Joan Thomas. Her collection of work, “Still Learning-On My Journey”, is on display through February for our library patrons to enjoy. An artist for thirty years, she began with drawing classes interspersed with watercolor, collage and most recently printmaking. Her style she says is evolving and she prefers working in watercolor because of the challenges it offers. She considers paintings or collages a way to express imagination and realities in new ways. She shares that her paintings lean toward stylized abstractions, still-life combinations that are somewhat graphic in design. Artist Joan Thomas believes that each painting has a life of its own and she allows it the freedom to move toward visual surprise. The larger paintings were created in the last two years but the smaller paintings were done about ten years earlier. The library encourages our patrons to browse this lovely work and to take a moment and share this artist’s beautiful journey.
