Using brush, paint, and palette knife Ann Vandervelde maps the Earth on canvas. Through her work she attempts to answer questions about the importance of green and urban space, climate, sound, structure, light and water and our own, not insignificant, footprint. The hard and soft lines of her compositions begin a story that moves in its own direction, flowing outward to reach the viewers’ life experiences. Ann’s observations are magnifications, not panoramic views, and she states that she often loses her way as a result. We are grateful she and her work found their way to the Lopez Library this month. We encourage our patrons to take a moment to view and enjoy her beautiful work.
